Have you ever used GPS for directions but still felt you knew a better way to get there? All we need to do is follow the blue line, but instead we veer off course, blaze our own trail, but sometimes end up more lost then we were in the first place.
We do the same thing with God’s direction too. We may not see a blue line (which would certainly make things A LOT easier) but we often think we know a better way. So again, we veer off course, blaze our own trail, and often end up more lost then we were in the first place.
Both God and GPS have an advantage we do not have – they see the bigger picture. They see what lies further down the road: detours, obstacles to overcome, and when the path will eventually clear up. And yet, we think we know better! Our limited, narrow view relies greatly on a gut feeling and a shortage of patience. We look for shortcuts, smooth roads, and scenic views. We do all we can to avoid rough roads and delays even if they come with lessons we desperately need for the journey.
So what should we do instead? Maybe it’s time we admit our way is not always right. We can consider there is more than one way to get where we need to go. Perhaps even trust that God’s way will not only take us where we need to go but will also show us some new things along the way. Unlike the GPS, God will not show the full route we will need to take but He certainly knows where we need to go. We need only trust His plan and follow His lead. He will always get us where we need to go, we just need to enjoy the ride!
