I don’t know about you, but I receive a lot of encouragement through worship music. For me, it is an easy way to align my thoughts with God in the midst of my everyday life.
Recently, I have been considering a song called Under my Feet by Zach Williams. The song describes becoming aware of schemes the devil uses to keep him captive. His thoughts and actions follow the lies the enemy convinces him to believe until he begins to see things a different way.
There is a verse in the song that say, “Maybe I was blind but now I see. Maybe I was bound but now I’m free. Maybe you need reminding you’re under my feet.” I wonder how many times have we talked ourselves out of doing what God is prompting us to do? We tell ourselves we aren’t prepared enough. We aren’t smart enough. We aren’t good enough because of the road we’ve walked. Someone else would do a better job than we would. We stay chained to the belief that we are not enough to do all God has planned. Whether the enemy whispers these things to us or we simply speak them over ourselves, we believe lies when we embrace this kind of ‘stinkin’ thinkin’!
Another verse says, “Maybe you’re a lie that I don’t need. Maybe you should listen when I speak. Maybe you need reminding you’re under my feet.” Do we allow ourselves to believe lies about our limitations because it is safer than believing what we could be capable of? Isn’t it much harder to step out in faith and trust God’s plans and promises than to stay surrounded with what is familiar? What lies do we choose to believe because they are just easier? How often do we take the path of least resistance because it takes less effort? God says we are loved, forgiven, equipped, and chosen. The enemy says we are broken, flawed, and ill equipped. Who do we say we are? The enemy backs down when we claim the power of God within us. But if we don’t claim that truth over ourselves, the enemy wins! We believe the lies, and we remain confined in chains.
One of the final verses says, “I think it’s time you meet my maker. I think it’s time you meet my maker.” Do we want freedom from the captivity the enemy holds us in? Do we want to see God’s plans and purposes come to fruition in our lives? Then it’s time we start claiming His power! We are fearfully and wonderfully made, and the enemy knows that full well. But it is only when we claim that God is the authority in our lives, and He infuses us with His power that we will be victorious over the enemy. We need only remind the enemy WHOSE we are and that he is, in fact, under our feet!
Be blessed,
Jennifer
