Have you ever bought furniture that needed to be assembled? It usually arrives with several little bags of parts, pieces, gadgets, and gizmos in addition to the larger pieces that need to be connected. Some pieces seem self-explanatory, others not so much. The manufacturer also includes a little booklet providing step by step instructions for how the pieces all go together. While some projects are easier than others, having the instruction manual makes everything easier!
Our lives often feel that way as well. Instead of having parts and pieces, we have a collection of thoughts and experiences that may not seem to go together but, in fact, work in tandem for a purpose. Life can feel like a seemingly random collection of events – never packaged neatly in bags, often looking like things may not fit together, and usually without any clear instruction!
Fortunately, we have a Master Designer who not only knows the purpose of each separate piece, but how to put them together at the perfect time. While we may not receive step by step instructions that show how everything will fall into place, God does provide clarity for the step we are on. We just need to know how to look for it.
When we read through the Bible, skimming through familiar passages, or reading stories for the first time, we are being equipped not only for the step we’re on but also being prepared for what’s to come. Have you ever seen a verse over and over and then suddenly realized it was exactly what you needed to hear? The Master Designer provides what we need and then shows us how it fit in our current situation. Praise God, that’s amazing!
After completing the assembly, we get to stand back and enjoy a beautiful new piece of furniture. I am certain God is just as pleased when all the pieces come together and something beautiful is created in us – just as He had planned! He knows we are a work in progress, we will certainly make mistakes, and some assembly is required!
Be blessed!
