While scrolling through Facebook the other day, a picture caught my attention. It was of a young mom holding a small child who had fallen asleep in her arms. The image was the epitome of peace, comfort, and rest and I could almost feel the slow, calm breath of the little one snoozing without a care in the world.
At that moment my Yorkie, Zoe, made herself comfortable in my lap. Within minutes, the little pup drifted off to sleep and began to quietly snore. I sat perfectly still and considered the security both little souls most be feeling in their momma’s arms.
Father God welcomes us to crawl up in His lap and find rest as well. But how often do we take Him up on the offer? When was the last time you leaned against the chest of God, breathed deeply, and allowed His peace, comfort, security, and love penetrate every area of your heart and mind?
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
But God doesn’t just stop with an invitation to come and rest, He intends for us to find comfort, security, and peace in our walk with Him every day.
“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:29-30
Just like the little ones who sleep soundly in the arms of their loving parents, we are held in the mighty, powerful, and comforting arms of our Heavenly God. In Him we are safe and protected. In Him we have rest.
Be blessed!
