Have you ever been sitting in a restaurant and noticed most of the couples around you are actively looking at their phones? What about being in a group of people all staring at hand held screens? Is it just me, or are we losing our connection with one another?
Don’t these new phenomena make you wonder – shouldn’t we love the one we’re with? Scheduling time with someone isn’t as meaningful if we don’t give them our full attention. Have you ever been out to lunch or dinner with a friend who interrupts your time together by answering texts, responding to email, or even answering a phone call? How did that make you feel? Have you ever been that person? I hate to admit it, but I have.
How about we make a change? Over the next few weeks, how about anytime we are meeting with someone we purposely give them our full attention? We just might find that the world won’t come to an end during the hour and a half that we sip coffee or enjoy a meal with a friend or family member. Who knows, we may even be reminded that we know some pretty amazing people!
We live in a fast paced, busy world. Life happens all around us whether we actively participate or not. But God gives us 24 hours in every day, so how are we using them? Are we so busy multitasking that we have lost our sense of purpose?
If you trust God to take an hour or two of your time to pour His love into another person, He will bless your obedience and grow your relationship.
We are designed to be in relationship with God and with others. But we can only be blessed and be a blessing when we fully engage in the people He brings onto our path. So, let’s make the effort to love the one we’re with!
Be blessed!
