It’s a new year! Over the next few weeks, you will be inundated with messages about self-improvement, new disciplines, and how to become a better version of yourself. May I interject an idea amid the noise? When is enough actually enough?
Not enough. The world is constantly telling us we are not enough. We need to be thinner, stronger, smarter, wealthier… no matter what the goal is, the finish line just keeps getting moved further away. We are quickly overwhelmed by the impression that we are just not enough.
Just enough. After being told time and time again we are missing the mark, we make some effort to improve. New exercise routines, diets, reading programs, get rich quick schemes – you name it, we try it. Only to find the promised results are either unattainable or temporary leaving us constantly chasing after the next solution.
More than enough. But then there’s God. He knew our efforts could never be enough. Not only for the things of this world, but for a life in an eternal world with Him. A life He has planned for us. He knew we would fall short of such perfection, so He made a way for us. He gave us the gift of Jesus.
Listen, there is nothing wrong with wanting to make positive changes in your habits and daily schedule in effort to live a healthier life… if you know why you’re doing it. Do you feel you should do more in your own effort to meet the standards of society? Or do you want to live the best version of the life you’ve been gifted?
You will realize you are enough when you find peace during the storm. Calm in the chaos. Contentment in need. Your life does not have to be perfect to be enough. You were enough for Jesus to sacrifice His life for you – you were then, and you are now. Improve yourself… grow… change… not because propaganda says you need to but because of God’s great gift. You are able.
You are enough.
Be blessed!
