As I gathered all my “must haves” for a short weekend getaway, I accidentally forgot one of my most important essentials – my phone charging cord.
As the number of battery life dropped lower and lower, I found myself feeling frantic to get some final things done – reply to email, search local store hours and locations, review that recipe one last time… then it was gone! My battery had died. My mind was inundated with all the things I suddenly needed my phone for… ugh!
After a quick run to the neighborhood convenience store, my phone was plugged in and gaining battery strength once again. Instead of turning it back on right away, I decided to give it time to replenish its strength uninterrupted.
I wonder if that’s how Jesus felt as well. He was the source for so many followers as He taught, led, and even healed others for the glory of God. But He always knew when He needed to recharge. He would slip away to be alone with the Lord. Jesus knew His true power came from God alone and, as a human, He had to connect to that source to regain His strength.
If I’m honest with myself, I actually welcomed the lack of distraction from not having my phone available. It allowed my mind to dive a bit deeper into my thoughts instead of skimming the surface in effort to get everything done. I slowed my pace and enjoyed the moment I was in instead of running ahead to the next thing on my ‘to do’ list. I took time to enjoy the view around me instead of giving my phone screen my full attention.
God invites us to be still with Him, knowing we will also need to recharge. Not only does it allow for a few moments of peach, but it also realigns our thoughts, calms our minds, rests our bodies, and fills our hearts with love from our Heavenly Father. Time spent with God not only recharges us physically, mentally, and spiritually, but it also quickly become the best part of our day!
Be blessed,
Jennifer
