On my way to and from work each day, I cross over a dam. I noticed this morning that both sides of the road have a very specific terrain. On one side, there is a steep, rolling hill of green grass that nestles next to a golf course. On the other side, is a large lake of bright blue water stretching out to the horizon.
I’m not certain why it caught my attention today, but I began to consider how vastly different each side actually is. If we decided to pull off and climb down the hill to the golf course we would need to have the appropriate shoes for climbing, perhaps even some rock-climbing equipment (ropes, pulleys, etc) for the very steep areas. Once we arrived at the golf course, we would need to change into golf shoes, have some golf clubs, and access to a golf cart to play a full round of 18 holes.
What if we chose the lake side of the road? Again, we would have to make our way down a very steep and rocky embankment so shoes with good traction would be appropriate. As we arrive at the water, we would need to either have our swimsuit ready as we dive in or have planned for a boat to pick us up and whisk us across the water.
With either choice, there are things we need to be equipped with to manage the terrain and accomplish the goal… and that’s where God comes in! He knows the plans He has for us and what we will need to accomplish those plans. He doesn’t dunk us in a lake holding a bag of golf clubs! And he doesn’t expect us to navigate down a steep cliff in flip flops and a swimsuit. God goes before us to prepare the way and infuse us with all we will need for the journey, we just need to follow His lead and trust His plan.
There are days that we may long to be gliding along the glassy water with the wind blowing through our hair, feeling the warm sun on our faces. Other times, we would love to be amongst the beautiful landscape of the golf course having fun with friends as we try for the elusive ‘hole in one’. Here’s what’s amazing – God may allow us to experience both! We just need to trust His timing and use how He’s equipped us for the task at hand. Today may be about the climb and not basking in the sun, but tomorrow is coming and we may get to enjoy the spray of the water and the slower pace! We can choose to embrace the moment we’re in knowing there is more to come, and EVERY moment is a gift from God who has good plans for us! No matter which adventure He leads us into, He will provide all we need!
Be blessed,
Jennifer
